Knowing how to properly manage our time can be one of the most challenging things to accomplish, but also the most rewarding. In this day and age, it seems as if everything is in constant motion; it’s a fast paced, never ending cycle of phone updates, past due bills, and carpool lanes that we can’t seem to escape. Which leads us to ask ourselves, how would one begin to find the time to operate a successful business? Our answer, Time Management; which is simply the process of exercising conscious control of how you distribute your time to specific activities.
“There just isn’t enough hours in the day.” We’ve all heard that one haven't we? Well, what if you could add hours to your day? What could you do with one extra hour? What could you do with two? For most of us, those extra hours would probably fill up pretty quickly with yesterday's leftover obligations, right? Well not anymore! As we help you manage your time you are going to find yourself being more productive, maintaining better focus, becoming self disciplined, and producing more efficient and higher quality work than ever before. Which in turn, is going to ADD hours to your day! That’s right, we said it; because we understand that as a LuLaRoe Consultant, proper management of your time, is going to make you more accountable to yourself as an entrepreneur, and help you be successful in every aspect of your life!
Which brings us to the most significant reward of good time management - achieving your “WHY”! At the end of the day, it’s the reason you are here; it is your single greatest motivation. However, like everything else, even your “WHY” can get lost in the responsibilities and schedules of everyday life. Sometimes families can feel neglected, and somehow even basic self-care becomes a second thought placed on the back burners of our minds. Well, here at LuLaRoe, we strive to foster an environment that allows you to have the best of both worlds! A place where sacrifices are replaced with commitments fulfilled, and time away becomes time with!
Principles and Practices for Successful Time Management
Now in order to successfully manage your time, there are a few practices we have compiled to help get you started.
1. Goals Galore!
Where do you see yourself in a year? Where do yourself in 6 months? Setting goals for ourselves is one of the most important things that we can do for time management, because they are a constant reminder of what we are working towards, and why we devote the time we have to what we do. They give us a sense of purpose and direction. Set yearly goals - maybe you want to hit a certain amount of sales for the year. Set monthly goals - maybe you want to be a trainer in six months. Lastly, set weekly goals - maybe you want to have 10 pop-up parties a week. No matter the time, and no matter the size, do your best to constantly set goals and meet those goals and you will find that every time you accomplish one, it’s not only going to build morale, but it’s going to become a habit, and a benchmark that you strive to reach every time you start again!
2. Plan of Action!
Setting goals is important, but the only way to reach them is to have a plan of action in place! So as you set your LuLaRoe goals and the time in which you want to meet them, have your family and work schedules there with you. This way you can properly map out how you want the coming weeks and months to look like, and what you will be doing during this time. Don’t be afraid to go into detail either; writing out a daily to-do list is a great way to build strong routines that help you to stay focused and accomplish your goals in an efficient and timely manner. Also, plan ahead! What sort of obligations do you have in the near future? For example: say you have a family vacation coming up, in which you will be gone for a week. Well you can assume you won’t be able to sell or host any parties during this time, but because of proper planning, you sold twice the amount the week before and scheduled double the parties for the following week to account for the time you were gone. This will allow you to balance family & work commitments without overloading yourself or having surprise events reveal themselves and possibly cause you to fall short of the goals you had for that time period! Remember, if you Fail to Plan, you Plan to Fail!
3. Prioritize Your Lives!
Prioritizing is crucial to time management! You will find that many times we find ourselves trying to do everything at once. We are a multi-tasking society, and we have perfected this art! It’s a natural response to the hectic and sometimes chaotic schedules we find ourselves in, and most of the time it can be good when trying to keep up with day to day responsibilities; but when it comes to time management, it can play a devastating part in hindering us from distributing our time appropriately and ultimately reaching our goals!
So how do we avoid that? Well as you prioritize, set boundaries for yourself, with feasible expectations. Rather than try to accomplish everything all at once, focus on just a few things at the start. This week, it may be getting up an hour earlier than usual, or going to bed at the same time each night to help you get enough sleep. Set up office hours or shopping hours for certain days and certain hours of each day and fully STICK.TO.IT.
While you are striving to better manage your time, you may find it helps to designate not just your time but also your space (physical and mental). Set up a dedicated workspace away from family-used rooms. After you’ve set up space for work, set up designated work boundaries. Set expectations for your customers; let them know exactly what they can expect from you: when you will be available, if certain times are no-contact times, etc.
When you are working during your designated work hours, be sure to have certain times set aside for social media. Schedule a time for you to be “online.” If 1:00-2:00pm is “Social Media Hour” then spend it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. But remember, use this hour to promote your business; as “Social Media Hour” can easily become “Social Me Hour.”
As you begin to configure a time management system that works best, optimize those same practices for your online parties and your LuLaRoe group. Set a schedule for when you will have your albums up and when you’ll take them down. When you set up a schedule for Facebook and your albums, make sure to include time immediately afterwards for invoicing. In the long run, getting this taken care of right away, will help you stay in the groove.
Next to designated Facebook time, another great way to help you be more efficient with your time management skills, is by having email templates ready. Have a template for the most common questions and emails you receive such as people who are interested in joining LuLaRoe. Be sure to include links to the “Inspire” video. If it’s an email looking for more information, you can easily have a template addressing the most common questions about LuLaRoe dresses, clothing and/or LuLaRoe consulting.
Additionally, be sure to set aside time to focus on working with your up-line. Keep that connection strong! There is much wisdom to be gained from them, and the experiences they have encountered on their LuLaRoe journey. It will also help you stay focused if you have someone you feel accountable to.
4. Delegate Before You Disintegrate!
My LuLaRoe loves, we cannot do it ALL! Probably one of the hardest things for us to admit sometimes, is that we need help! Nowadays, we have so many resources at our disposal that it makes no sense for us to try and do everything by ourselves! In addition to setting aside specific times for specific tasks, another great practice to improve time management is to delegate and outsource. Outsource tasks or things that don’t fulfill your “WHY.” If you can, think about hiring a nanny for the days you’re working your business, even if it’s for half the day. Or hire someone to clean the house. To help achieve business hours or even a date night, have a babysitter you trust, that you keep on retainer. Even consider setting up a day each month or week that you will use them no matter what. Also, if you are in a position to, try hiring an assistant to help with the business-related tasks. This way your work load is dispersed, and it can allow you to focus on some of the more crucial tasks at hand! All of these are amazing resources to help bring us closer to reaching our goals, and we should always try to remember that everyone needs help sometimes!
5. No Time Like Family Time
If you have familial obligations, be sure to include them in your weekly to-do’s. Whether you have a family with kids, or if it’s just you and your spouse, having time with them is an absolute MUST! Here at LuLaRoe, we insist that you factor in family time, because we understand that there is nothing more important than those moments with the ones you love!
Decide what your personal and family time will look like. Just like you set aside certain hours for work, be sure to set aside certain hours for your family. Therefore, during those times, don't respond to work emails, work calls or anything of the sort! If it helps, turn your phone on airplane mode. Set aside time for date night with the spouse, and again, leave the phone off or on airplane mode! If you take the time to focus completely on your family, you’ll notice how fulfilling those relationships can become and therefore remind yourself why it is you are doing all that you are doing!
And of course, above all else, find a way for you to enjoy some personal time! Give yourself an hour (or even 15 minutes if you are really crunched) for JUST YOU and do whatever will bring you 15 minutes of peace. Self care is extremely important, because ultimately we struggle to help others if we find ourselves struggling to maintain our own physical and mental wellness. Find hobbies and activities to take your mind off the responsibilities and obligations of daily life and enjoy whatever it is that helps you relax and recharge to become ready for a brand new day!
Remember that time management isn’t just about being successful as a LuLaRoe Consultant, it’s also about being successful in all aspects of your life. We’ve never been more adamant about a successful business practice than we are with time management. It is one of the things that keeps us sane! As you start to implement each of these principles and practices into your life and business don’t forget what awesome, fantastic, wonderful, ticklish joy will come at the end of each week as you see your business AND your life change. Above all else, don’t forget that there will absolutely be days that you won’t be able to stay on top of things and other days where you will be a ninja fighting force of power shooting out gold stars for everyone. But guess what? You are NOT ALONE! You have a wonderful community of LuLaRoe Consultants behind you for those crummy days and those stick-it-to-the-man days. So good luck on this amazing journey and don’t forget to spread the LuLaRoe love.
