Is there such a thing as work-life balance? Can you really have the best of both worlds? These are concepts sought after by every dreamer, every entrepreneur, and anyone with the courage to reach for the stars. But for one mother, determination would help her turn these dreams into reality!
For four years, Cassandra Looper has changed the lives of countless women, through LuLaRoe clothing; instilling confidence and building connections with thousands of like-minded individuals. Well, you may be wondering what the catch is. And for Cassandra, her advice is simple—know you're enough!
WHO INTRODUCED YOU TO LULAROE?
A girl in our mom's LuLaRoe shopping group invited me to a Pop-Up Boutique. I was one of those girls that always wore jeans and a sweatshirt or jeans and a t-shirt. I had really bad self-confidence. I saw these women trying on the clothes and coming out of the dressing room with big smiles on their faces, so excited, and buying bags of clothes. I wanted to experience that. I was finally talked into trying on some clothes. Once I put them on, I just felt amazing. I walked out with a couple bags of clothes that night. It was the way I felt. I felt better in my own skin. My husband was even telling me how he saw a difference in me. I knew this was what I was missing. I also wanted to give that same experience to the other women in my life.
I've been with LuLaRoe since the middle of 2015, so I've had quite a journey with LuLaRoe; and I feel like every year I get more confident and established in who I am.
CAN YOU SHARE A STORY WHEN YOU SAW LULAROE CHANGE SOMEONE’S LIFE?
I don't know if I have any one story. When I interact with my customers, they keep telling me how amazing they feel. They take pictures and post them in my Facebook group with huge smiles on their faces. You can tell them that “they are beautiful now”, and instead of saying "no I'm not, you're more beautiful", they now say “Thank You”. It’s the simple things like that. They're owning their own confidence, and I've
seen that transformation so many times with my own customer base. So I don't think there's one story. I think there are thousands and thousands of stories of women just being more confident, more beautiful, and just owning who they are.
IS THERE AN OBSTACLE THAT YOU'VE HAD TO OVERCOME THAT REALLY STANDS OUT IN YOUR MIND?
My biggest obstacle, and the one that I think drew me to LuLaRoe, was having my daughter. Having her changed my direction in life and made me reevaluate what was important to me. After having my daughter, I had to go back to working full time; I was dropping her off at a babysitter in the mornings, and picking her up in the evenings. It hurt—doing that every day. I knew that was not how I wanted to raise my kids. I knew something needed to change. So I started seeking something different.
I began looking for opportunities. I went back to school, hoping that would be the answer. It wasn’t, but it did lead me to LuLaRoe. Once I was introduced to LuLaRoe, I knew it was the answer.
SO HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU USUALLY WORK IN YOUR BUSINESS A DAY?
I'd say anywhere from 5 to 7 hours during the day, 4 days a week. We try to do a LIVE Sale three times a week. Fridays are usually half days because my husband gets a half day, this way we get even more family time. Saturday, I put in a couple hours in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon. Sundays are fully family time.
While my daughter is at school, I'm answering emails, sending invoices, shipping, photographing, and doing personal styling; just what needs to be done in my business. I try to check in with my team members as much as possible and get as much work done as I possibly can, crammed into those hours; so when my daughter's home, we're back to family time.
THINKING BACK ON YOUR LULAROE JOURNEY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF WHEN YOU WERE FIRST STARTING OUT AS AN ENTREPRENEUR?
I’d stop telling myself I can't do it. So many times, there'd be a list of things I’d have to get done. I would tell myself, "Oh I can't go LIVE today" or "I can't do this." I’d make excuses as to why I couldn't start. I wish I would have said to myself, "Don't make excuses. Find the time and get it done".
You gotta stop telling yourself you can't do something. When you have a vision and plan for your business, you just have to take action.
WHAT HAS LULAROE HELPED YOU ACHIEVE IN YOUR LIFE?
The ability to grow our family. Before LuLaRoe, my husband and I had decided that financially we could not support another child. Children are expensive and it's not fair to put a strain on what we currently had going on in our family.
Prior to LuLaRoe, we were a family of three. Thanks to LuLaRoe, we're a family of four. I call him our LuLu baby because he truly is. Without LuLaRoe, he would not be here and our family wouldn't be complete.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY FROM WORKING YOUR BUSINESS?
One thing that stands out to me every time I go to a LuLaRoe event is watching how Home Office—especially DeAnne—knows so many names. There are so many faces. They stop, make those connections, and hug people. It makes me feel like we are somebody and we're not just a number. Those connections say we're somebody, we're important, and we're all in this together. That is one of my favorite things about LuLaRoe, and I get to enjoy that every time I go to an event.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THOSE READING THIS?
I’d say, don't doubt yourself. Don't be afraid to take the leap. When I was onboarding, I hesitated. When I got my call, and it came time to pay, it scared me and I hung up [laughs]. It took my husband coming home and encouraging me to make that call, to do this business. So don't be afraid of the unknown. Just embrace it, run with it, and enjoy life—because you deserve it.
